Wacky Willagers Summer Gathering 1:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Sunday July  11, 2004

.

Message from our president. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Rita Carroll

Spring has deluged us with rain, rain and more rain.  The one good thing about it is that our grass, flower and vegetable gardens should all be growing like crazy, even if a bit water logged.  With the official start of Summer less than a week away, our thoughts are focused on family time, vacations and picnics.  What better way to enjoy the summer than by joining your fellow Wackys at our Summer Gathering.  Sunday, July 11th is the day, so mark your calendars and be ready to join in the fun and camaraderie.  Our food, game and prize committees are hard at work putting together the plans for the Summer Gathering.  Don’t forget to bring a dish to pass and enough lawn chairs for those in your party.

Summer time means the 4th of July will soon be upon us.  I am getting together all my houses and accessories and hope to have my patriotic display put together be the end of next week.  A patriotic display is a great way for you to show off the display skills you have learned at our meetings and the Chicago 2004 gathering.  Your guests will surely enjoy such a display and it might just interest others into collecting D56.

Some of your fellow club members braved the rush hour traffic on May 17, to attend the D56 Dealer and Consumer Gathering.  This Gathering was held at the D56 store in Water Tower Place and we met some of the members of the D56 Board of Directors.  We also spent some time with CEO Susan Engel and told her some of the houses and accessories we would like to see in the future for our villages.  She appeared to be very interested in our suggestions and wrote many of them down so she wouldn’t forget them.  She told us that they are already in the pre-planning stages for a 30th Anniversary celebration to be held in Minnesota and was happy to hear that some of us would be interested in attending.  We were given four Chicago ornaments as gifts with a purchase and a few of us were able to obtain the booklet of the mid-year releases.  They had a lot of new items displayed for the Halloween giftware line and also a couple of the new Halloween Krinkles that will be available soon.

Our Christmas Brunch Co-Chairmen (Lynn and Dee) are hard at work acquiring a location for the brunch.  Hopefully it will again be held at the Palos Country Club, where we all had such an enjoyable time last year.

Have a wonderful summer and I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Summer Gathering.

Mark you calendars for our Summer Gathering.  This year’s Summer Gathering will be held at the home of Nancy Gass on Sunday, July 11th from 1 P.M. to 6 P.M.  All club members, family & friends are invited.  The club will supply the main entree and lemonade.  Members are asked to bring a side dish (salad or dessert) to share.

We will have some games and prizes.  So far we are planning on playing Bingo, the famous puzzle game made by Nancy & Joanne, and Doug L. is working on a new D’56 Trivia Game.  There will be prizes for these games and also Door Prizes.

We will be mailing out reminder post cards with directions to the home of  Nancy Gass and more information later this month.  We ask that you please RSVP as soon as possible so we can finalize our plans as well by calling NANCY WISE at 708-430-5922.  Leave your name, number of adults and the ages of any children attending.

This year’s Summer Gathering, will be a fun time to visit with fellow club members, family and friends.  We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, July 11th at Nancy’s.

This just in from Doug  (Game Committee):  I've been working on D’56 Trivia Game. Yes we will work in teams. Each team should have someone that collects Snow Village, Christmas In The City, Dickens' Village, New England Village, and North Pole Collection. The majority of the questions will be relating to these collections.  As of now, the topics will be:1) Name the item  2) What village does it go with  3) The price is right  4) General information  5) and finally one I have yet to determine.   Perhaps you might want to "study" before the Summer Gathering!

If you attended the Annual Christmas Brunch you noticed that two "attendance" prizes were awarded. The board has decided to implement a NEW POINT SYSTEM. The new point system is as follows: 1 point for meetings, club gatherings (e.g. Halloween) and 1 point per day for collector gatherings and bringing snacks for meetings; 2 points for signing up and working at a club or collector gathering and for making cookies or other refreshments for a club or collector gathering.. Your name will be entered into a drawing as many times as the points you have earned during the year. The drawing will be at December's Annual Brunch. Prizes will be awarded. Rita will explain this further at the February meeting.
