My Fellow Willagers. . . . . . . . by Adele Heinrich. July 2004 Display / Vignette Contest in September My fellow club members, summer is now upon
us. Although we do not hold meetings during the summer to give everyone
a chance to vacation and enjoy the weather and their families, does
this mean we forget our passion for our villages? No we say. Keeping
with the spirit of our club, the board has come up with a contest
to challenge us. Get your thinking caps on. During the summer you
will have the chance to work on a special display that will dazzle
your fellow members. There are two categories: A display, and a vignette.
Summertime is once again here. Many people have done their spring cleaning and are now holding yard sales. I have found over the years that yard sales can be a source of treasure for a villager. It is surprising how many people don't realize what they have or just don't care. I have found Dept. 56 trees and accessories at them. My daughter really hit the jackpot two years ago. She was able to buy 7 Dept 56. houses for $5.00 a piece. That's right folks $5.00 a piece. They were all snow village and although my daughter does not collect snow village (she's has snow babies) she could not get her money out fast enough. I still remember the big grin on her face when she brought them to me! I was allowed to pick out the pieces I didn't have and the rest she put on eBay. I received several houses I didn't have and she made $350. Now that's what I call a great deal! You can also find great little things to enhance your displays. I thought I would share this tidbit with you. This weekend I stopped at a sale on the way to the store and found a cool igloo for my NP. Happy treasure hunting! Editor's note: Several years ago, my hubby
found a new (in the original box) The Flat of Ebenezer Scrooge at
a garage sale for $10.00! |
