Goshen Scout Camps
1997 will be the 30th anniversary
Camp Olmsted, Camp Bowman and Camp Marriott
Only a four-hour ride from our nation's capital, Goshen Scout
Camps are nestled in an area in the western part of Virginia which Thomas
Jefferson called the "Garden Eden of the United States." They are located in
Goshen, Virginia, about 30 miles southwest of Staunton, and west of the
southern terminus of Skyline Drive. The camps which make up Goshen Scout
Camps are in the Allegheny mountains surrounding the 450-acre Lake
Merriweather. They are among the largest and most beautiful council camps in
the nation and are easily accessible from Interstate 81.
Goshen Scout Camps consist of:
- Camp Bowman
- Camp Merriott
- Camp Olmstead
- Camp P.M.I., Post, Ross
- Lenhok'sin High Adventure, which has its headquarters at Camp Baird.
Scouts may attend with their troops or as provisional campers.
There are four kinds of eating arrangements at Goshen Scout Camps:
- The patrol cooking method at Camps Bowman and Marriott
- The heater stack method at Camp Marriott, where prepared food is delivered in special containers to campsites,
- The dining hall method at Camp Olmstead
- The freeze-dried method used in
the Lenhok'sin High Adventure program.
