 | Centrair Pegase 101A
The Pegasus was developed by the Centrair factory of France after manufacturing the German ASW-20 under license. Many observers cannot see the slight changes from the ASW-20 model that the French made. The factory claims that the fuselage and wings were slightly modified where they felt small improvements could be made. One noticeable difference is the Pegasus does not have flaps like the ASW-20. The tail boom has a larger diameter to resist breakage in ground loops, and considerable modifications in the wing-to-fuselage fairing.
Two models were offered in 15 meter configuration; the standard and carbon models. Some models also came with removable winglets that proved effective in climb and under weak conditions. The winglets were found ineffective at higher speeds though.
In the short time that I owned this plane, I've found that there seems to be some different opinions concerning the way the French factory "copied" the ASW-20. (For those of you unfamiliar with the '20; it has an outstanding record as one of the most successful racers of all time.) The Germans seem to have a strong opinion about this matter, and have seen such in the international soaring newsgroup. I will say that for the money, I couldn't have found a better performing sailplane. I recently had to sell it and devote more time to my business.
