SZD-36A "Cobra 15"
The Cobra 15 is a high performance Standard Class design that first flew in late 1969. The ship features mass balanced ailerons, a free flying horizontal tail in "T" configuration and a retractable gear which stows the wheel horizontally via a patented kinematic system. Glidepath is controlled by ample spoilers positioned on both upper and lower wing surfaces.
Built as fully aerobatic, it sports a roll rate of less than 3 seconds for a 45 to 45 degree roll. The plane has wonderful input response, and handles nicely in both climb and run. Two Polish pilots flew Cobras 15s to 2nd and 3rd place at the 1970 Internationals in Marfa, Texas.
The craftsmanship of this wood and fiberglass ship is outstanding. Even thought is not to well known in the USA because of importation problems in the early 1970's, hundreds of these ships were produced between 1969 and 1975. This is one of three known flying Cobras in the United States as of this writing. The pictured plane is now owned by me again!!! |
