Sitting as an oasis in the North Central Kansas area is Concordia. This community is home to a college and four depots. At one time the Missouri Pacific (freight and passenger depots), Union Pacific(passenger), and Santa Fe(passenger) all called this place home. The UP tracks are gone, the Missouri Pacific tracks are still used by the Kyle railroad and the Santa Fe tracks are of course now BNSF tracks. All of the depots are crammed together just north of downtown and west of U.S. 81. Concordia was the origination and termination point for Doodlebug service. Past this point you rode the mixed.

The Santa Fe remodeled Concordia's large standard frame depot because of its importance as what accounts as a Santa Fe outpost on the plains. It is one of a few county seats not to have a more substantial brick or masonary depot. Today it is still in use as a maintenance of way house.
