GLAVA, KANSAS

Glava Passenger Service 1942
3:04pm No. 57 Westbound Doodlebug to Ellinwood from Florence
9:45am No. 58 Eastbound Doodlebug to Florence from Ellinwood

Still standing boarded up in 1995 this depot has been shorn of its bay window and probably truncated. Enough detail remains however to show that this was at one time a Marion and McPherson railroad standard. An example of an intact Marion and McPherson style depot at Conway, Kansas can be found in Wheat Lines and Super Freights by Joe McMillian on page 59. It is interesting to note that both the Conway depot and the Glava depot have the same Santa Fe 1895 standard eave supports. While it is difficult to see in this photo the bay window outline can be see just to the right of the corner of the depot faceing the photographer. The bay window on a Marion and McPherson style depot was capped just under the eave with a minature conical roof.
