f 1:30pm No. 8 Eastward Fast Mail Express
s 10:01pm No. 68 Eastward Doodlebug to Hutchison from Kinsley

Note the partly passenger schedule on this busy passenger mainline. Today things have not changed. Amtrak's Southwest Chief passes by without stopping. All was not lost though as Stafford would become a flag stop for the Grand Canyon Trains Nos 23&24 in later years. The last passenger train stopped at this depot in May of 1971.

Although Stafford was on the transcontinental mainline and hosted this beautiful County seat depot it was served only by a doodlebug and a flag stop by the Santa Fe's crack mail train. When this photo was made in 1992 the depot was still in use by Maintenance of way forces. Note the unusual placement of the station name above the freight house. Variations on this design were numerous.
