Southworth Family - Information Exchange

Information Exchange

Genealogical research on the Southworth line is, and always will be, a work in progress. Although our direct line can be traced to the early twelfth century, the record isn't entirely free of inconsistencies and errors. While making our records more accurate, our goal is to extend our knowledge even further into the past and fill in all the branches of our history.

We know that many valuable documents have been collected by various branches of the family over the years, but until recently, it seemed that there was little hope of ever finding a convenient way of sharing them across the extended family. We're hopeful that this website will be a way to start making this information more accessible.

There are also many family members who are looking for information on specific individuals. Please take a few minutes to browse through these requests for information and help out when you can. This is also the place to submit requests of your own or to try to locate family members working on the lines.

You can download a GEDCOM file containing 4,674 ancestors of Edward Southworth (the direct ancestor of most Southworths living in the United States) by clicking here. Please get back to us with any corrections or additions that you might have (along with the appropriate documentation, of course). Alternatively, you can view Constant Southworth's ancestry (Edward's son) via your web browser by clicking here. (this impressive site was put together by Jim Stevens--be sure to read his note regarding reference numbering of individuals for it applies to the GEDCOM file available above). You can also download a zipped text file containing five generations of Constant Southworth's descendants by by clicking here.

You can also locate information on family members at a commercial genealogy Web site like Ancestry.com. With more than 570 databases containing tens of millions of names, there is a good chance that you'll be able to locate some of the information you're looking for. You can get an idea of what they have by filling in a name below and selecting locality and date range from the drop down lists.
