Request from Sandy: I am trying to find information on a Theodore J. Southworth. I am not a relative, but would like to find any relatives as I have a diary written by T.J. Southworth when he was in the 184th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was 42 years old at the time of his enlistment in Granby. This diary has been in my husband's family for decades and I have been trying to find out if there is any connection between the families. My husband's grandfather was I.D. Bramer of Fabius and later Fairport ,New York. His Great Grandfather was Lewis Bramer, Jr. of Fabius New York. Lewis Bramer was also a civil war soldier. So far we just don't have enough to go on. The diary covers Jan-April of 1865. Names mentioned include: Lib, who we believe was his wife; Dewey, maybe a son; and a brother named John. His father dies in the spring of the year, but he does not mention him by name. New York areas mentioned include: Wayne County; Rochester; and Fulton, where we think his brother lived, and Palmyra. This diary is now on line, courtesy of a friend who does civil war research. The site address is : www.skaneateles.org/cw_misc/southworth.html I have been searching census for this man, but can find nothing definite. If you have any information that might help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for your help. Posted 22 August 20000

Request from Sherry: I need your help finding Henry Southworth, who came to Virginia (Lyn Haven, Chicopean Bay) area in 1636 with his wife, Elizabeth Eves and her brother, Jon Eves, my direct ancestor. He is also the direct ancestor of about 12,000 "Eaves" family members in the U.S. and we have all been unable to find his family "across the pond". I thought that perhaps by finding Henry's family, I could find out who his wife's parents were, and therefore Jon's parents. Henry was "a younger son" and therefore did not stand to receive any lands, but he did have some money, apparently, and brought his brother-in-law with him perhaps as an indentured servant. Poor Henry's plans didn't work out very well, and he died soon after his arrival in America. His wife, Elizabeth, remarried to Lt. Richard Popely, we know that much. We also know that the Eves and Southworth families were connected for centuries, intermarrying over and over. The family name was D'Ewyas, and we know our branch came from Ralph "The Timid" de Ewyas de Mantes, nephew of King Edward the Confessor. DO YOU KNOW WHO HENRY WAS??? Thanks in advance for any help you can give us. Sherry at: cameljoe@interl.net Posted 18 August 2000

Request from Steve Decknick (sdecknick@finsvcs.com): I'm seeking info about my gggrandparents and relatives, who were Southworths living in the Unadilla - Oneonta - Hartwick region of NY. I know my ggrandmother was Bertha Southworth (m. Fred Brown) and her Sister was Ella Southworth (m. Tim McLean), and they lived in the Hartwick NY area during the early 1920's. Ella and Tim McLean had a son named Nelson during this time. Bertha and Ella's father was alive in 1920-1921, and may have lived in the general area, perhaps not in Hartwick, but I do not have either his name nor his wife's. I have photos of Earl Southworth, who also lived in Hartwick and was seen with Fred Brown and Tim McLean in the 1920's, and Earl may have been Ella and Bertha's Brother or cousin. Also I have a photos including a man named Charles Southworth with son Jona (circa 1920), a young girl named Louise Southworth, and a photo of Fred and Bertha with Fred's Mom and "Aunt Nettie" - possibly Nettie Southworth (circa 1920). Mysterious 1962 color photo of "Aunt Alta" who lived in Cobleskill, NY. Many Southworth photos, some relatives completely unknown, were professionally taken, presumably at a (unnamed) studio during the years 1890-1925. I would like to learn more about the parents of Bertha and Ella Southworth especially, and the relationship between them and other Southworths (e.g.. Charles, Jona, and Louise), as well as descendant Nelson McLean. Contact me by email at sdecknick@finsvcs.com, or write to me at 6 Sunset Avenue, Mechanicville, NY 12118-3059. See the www.familyshoebox.com web site and look up my site "ThoseDecknicks", where I have posted some family photos (try this link). I have made contact with Terri Crockord and her husband, who are descendants of Ella Southworth, my Great Grandmother's Sister. Terri supplied me with a copy of the family tree that extends from Bertha and Ella's generation and their parents Orrin and Lydia, on back to the year 1600 in England. I would still like to hear from anyone who can tell me about the other siblings of Ella and Bertha, and especially their descendants. The other siblings are Earl and wife Julia, Nettie and husband Will Judkins, Arthur and wives Lydia and then Lottie, and Lucy, who died in her 14th year. I have photos and references to children including Jona Southworth and Louise Southworth, but I don't know who they are. Children of Orrin Southworth and Lydia Converse are:
i. Earl Southworth, born Jan 01, 1884; married Julia
ii. Nettie Southworth, born Jan 01, 1886; married Will Judkins
iii. Arthur Southworth, born Jan 01, 1892; married (1) Lydia; married (2) Lottie
iv. Bertha Southworth, born Jan 01, 1892. 1
v. Ella Mae Southworth, born Jan 21, 1894; died Oct 01,1977 in Cooperstown NY; married Willard Nelson McLean Jan 19, 1912 in Hartwick NY.
vi. Lucy Southworth, born Jan 01, 1896; died Jan 01, 1910.
