The 4-H Club Song

A real slice of Americana, this is a song Elinor recalls singing when she was a little girl (in the 1920's) in the 4-H Club in Brentwood, California. The song is sung to the tune of Turkey in the Straw. Try singing it in the shower.

-- Robert

Oh my horse went dead,
and my mule went lame;
and I lost my crop
in the feeding game.
Then a hurricane
came along one day
and blew the house
where I lived away.

Then an earthquake came
when that was gone
and swallowed up the land
that the house stood on.
Then the tax collector
came around
and charged me up
with a hole in the ground.

Hole in the ground,
No sir-ree!
No sir neighbor,
Not for me!
So come along with me, and let's go
to the next regular meeting of the Farm Bureau!
