Please remember that genealogy is an art, a science, and to some degree a guess. Even the most thoroughly researched lines around will have astonishing errors and gaps, and even some deliberate frauds. This page, of necessity, puts a lot of trust in what others have found about how they are related to the Woolsons, though it sometimes adds up the information differently. There is also some data from official records and estate inventories. Please note that the Woolson part of the line is not royal in any way.

Thomas Woolson (b. 1626-30, England; d. 05 April 1713 Weston MA) Innkeeper; Selectman. Some sources have him coming to Massachusetts as late as 1660, but it is more likely that he came (or maybe *first* came) between 1648 and 1652. Apparently sold land to Jonathan Hyde (b. 1626), in 1656. Was arrested and convicted of selling liquor without a license, 15 Dec 1685, then applied for and received licence a few months later. In 1676, a 14 year old fatherless Indian boy named John was "put forth into service" under his care.

--------- Joseph Woolson (b. 16 Nov 1677, Weston MA, d. 16 May 1755) m#1. Hannah unk. (poss. Temple?) ca. 1698. Most of the real estate holdings were left to this Joseph -- which made him quite wealthy. [[Some sources have Joseph as a separate Woolson, with birth and death shifted about 20 years sooner. If that were true, then either there are two Josephs at that time, or the one from England is also a brother and heir of Thomas Sr.. But this is unlikely.]] Children :
--------- Joseph Asa Woolson (b. 13 Dec 1699; d. 15 Oct 1766) m#1. Elizabeth Upham, 5 children, incl. Asa (m. Elizabeth Knight), Nathan (m. Miriam Bigelow); m#2. Grace Harrington-Gregory, 19 Sep or 03 Nov 1761, Weston, MA).

relative of undetermined kind: Nathaniel Woolson (b. 1679; m. Elizabeth Reid / Reed, 28 Dec 1709, Watertown MA)
Note : It is not known what relation this is to the Thomas Woolson of the company MercExchange, who invented the technology behind the fixed-price payment feature used by EBay 2002-pres..
Also note : In a surprising twist of history, a Thomas Woolson of Claremont, NH was a presidential elector for New Hampshire, 1828. He represented the Claremont area in the New Hampshire State Senate 10th District, 1828-29. That means he represented the Bonds shortly after they first moved there, and preceded the Culls in the state legislature. He also served as a sealer of weights and measures in 1827.
