Biographical Extract

Dr. Mazlen is a nationally recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), or Chronic Fatigue Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) as it is sometimes called, and related chronic active viral fatigue syndromes, such as post-viral fatigue. He has appeared on Channel 5 TV as a chronic fatigue expert in both 1992 and 1991. He has made numerous radio and cable television appearances in which he has shared his expertise in this growing public and private health menace.

Being an internist and specialist in Clinical Nutrition, who is a senior member of the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, he has used the medical school library resources to continuously search the literature for advances in both the diagnosis and treatment of CFIDS and related disorders. Also, through his research, he and nutritionist Jane Kaplan, R.D. have constructed a detailed diet for therapeutic use as an adjunct to other therapies in the treatment of CFIDS. His offices contain an extensive up-to-date bibliography of pertinent and salient medical papers concerning CFIDS and related disorders. Since the later 1970’s, Dr. Mazlen estimates that he has seen and treated over a thousand cases of CFIDS and CFIDS-like disorders, a large majority of which attained significant improvement. Dr. Mazlen serves as medical advisor to Nassau and Suffolk Counties CFIDS support groups, and was a guest speaker at Beth Israel Hospital for the New York City CFIDS group on September 16, 1990 (a tape of this talk is available). Dr. Mazlen is a member of a number of important medical organizations and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, of which he is a past Director and Secretary-Treasurer.
