Born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1967, Yigal Rechtman grew up on Kibbutz Tzora, outside of Jerusalem. When growing up on the Kibbutz he was introduced to computer programming. In 1986, he first discovered his interest in genealogy while designing Family Tree Manager software for a colleague.
In 1989, after a military service in the Communication Corps in Israel, Rechtman moved to the U.S. where he pursued his Computer Science degree at New York University. Through access to the Internet, Rechtman has uncovered extensive information regarding his own roots, as well as assisted with the research of other genealogy enthusiasts, responding to information-, methodical- and technical-requests potsed on the interest groups' Web sites and e-mail lists. In 1997 Rechtman began writing his own family's history book, which was published in 1999.
In 2002 Rechtman graduated with an MS in Accounting from Pace University, New York. Following his graduation he continued to work as a computer specialist and a financial audit manager.
Yigal Rechtman is married to Hara Person, a Rabbi, and has two children.
