Art from the Heart

The following is a former winner of the Amazing but Incredibly True Story Contest.

About three years ago I was watching a television show about an artist whose art made a difference to blind children. I was so touched by his gifts that I said a prayer asking that my artistic ability be able to touch other's lives. I asked for a sign from above. I got out my blank pad of paper and pen and waited for this amazing gift to start flowing on the paper. After a couple of minutes I proceeded to draw a young girl with a pregnant belly and a small tear coming out of her eye. I looked down at this paper, and thought to myself , "Yeah right, this is really inspirational!" I then tossed the paper down on the rug not giving it another thought.

A couple hours later I received a phone call from my sister-in-law, who was then a senior in high school. She was very upset, because her parents were dragging her on a family vacation for the entire weekend. She still had to complete her project, but she was frustrated. She was doing a project on pregnancy, and needed someone to help her with the drawings. Of course I volunteered to help draw them, and she was so happy. She said that my drawings turned out so good that her teacher asked if she could keep them as a wall reference.

When I later looked at that picture I drew I noticed that there were symbols helping me to see where I could help. The pregnant girl with the tear symbolized my sister-in-law Marisa's need for the pregnancy drawings, and the small tear showed her being upset.  I learned that I can make a difference with my artistic talents, and most of all I know that prayer does work. When your heart is behind your wishes they are sure to come true.
