This is Constable Ayers' Uniform. It is patterned after what a constable of the Metropolitan Police would have worn at around 1870. The Star of Brunswick on the helmet would have just been coming into service then, although the police whistle is about ten years too early (it being adopted by London M.P. in the early '80's). Note the knee-length frock coat, which was replaced by a Grenadier Guards style tunic at around the turn of the century.
