Scripts for Macintosh AOL version 3.0

Well, well, well. We've finally got some decent software for the Mac from AOL. Nice of them to finally pay attention to us. The new version 3.0 is scriptable, to a degree. There are plenty of bugs, including the inability to set the addressee of a mail header, and the inability to get a list item while inside a 'tell application "America Online"' statement. But in spite of that, I've come up with some useful scripts anyway.

Go To > Anywhere!
This applet can be your best friend. It is easy to use and very powerful. When you lauch it for the first time, it will ask you for the user name you want to set it to. It will then ask for the URL to link to. Anytime you launch the applet, it will log onto AOL and take you to the stored URL! If you are already logged on, it will still take you to the stored URL anyway.

With the new AOL software can save places in AOL to your Favorite Places list. These are actually URL pointers you can copy and place into this applet. To do so, select a favorite place from the Favorite Places palette and click the Edit button. Copy the URL and then paste that URL into the applet. The applet will now go to that location in AOL.

You can reset an applet to a new user or location at anytime by clicking the Set Prefs button when you run the applet to log on. Just indicate the new user and URL in the upcoming dialogs! To create more link applets, duplicate an exisiting applet and set it to another location or user name.

I've included two versions: one will use the AOL browser when going to Internet sites, the other uses Netscape.

TIP: I created a new category on the Launcher on my desktop called Links containing my favorite Go To > applets. Now, I can go anwhere I want on the Net or AOL with a single click!

Clear Folders
Three scripts: one clears the Completed Downloads folder, one clears the To Be Downloaded folder, and the last clears the Browser Cache folder.
