My Comments: Hi! I sent you some information recently from the Bible belonging to the family of James Harris and Betty Shares. Now I have another question. Your information shows that Hannah Jameson, daughter of Samuel and Margaret Craig Jameson and sister to my ancestor Elizabeth, married William Harris, son of Robert Harris and Mourning Glenn. That he was born about 1729. I only have my direct line documented so I would like to know if you have a copy of the marriage record. You state William Harris was born in 1729 which would make him 61 years old at the time of the marriage. James and Betty Shares Harris also had a son William, entered in the Bible as follows: William Harris born 30 January 1770 and died 5 February 1806. Another researcher had this William Harris as the wife of Hannah Jameson, but I have no documentation. However, it might make more since, since James and Betty's son was closer in age and his death is documented as happening before her marriage to Daniel Maupin. Also her sister certainly married into this family so they must have lived in the same area. The History of Albemarle County in chapter 7 states that my James is the son of Robert Harris, but doesn't give the mother, so I have been reluctant to tie him to the other Harris line, even though they had a son James. Anyway those are just my thoughts, because I'm curious.

My Comments: Would love to talk with you Iam from some of the same families, Spencer, Graves, Via. We also own a Walton homestead in Free Union Va. I know the house goes back to about 1759. It is sorry to say it is in sad state. There are graves there also. The earlest marked one is from 1808. I tie into the Via's from marrage of Margaret Via to Daniel Maupin. Hope to hear back from you.I also know of the graves for I think Henry Ward and Isaabella Via.

My Comments: You have one of the most wonderful websites I've seen yet - very "inviting"! I had made a connection to Mary Peyton Smith, through her father William's (b. 1700, son of Valentine) will of 1771 in a Culpeper Co. VA will book. Mary was actually first married to Samuel Orr who died 1767 in Culpeper Co. What drew me to this particular will was the name Peyton, as Mary's son William Smith (who is mentioned in her will from Nelson Co. KY Will Book A, 1795) had a son named William PEYTON Smith. Mary's will also happens to witnessed by John and Bryan Stone as is her father's will. She has a sister named Ann who married a Stone, so I'm assuming one of the Stone's may have been her husband. John Stone is listed on the Nelson Co. KY tax lists as is Mary. Unfortunately, I have yet to find the name of Mary's second husband Mr. Smith. With the early Culpeper marriages having been used for "fuel" it may not be an easy task. Her eldest son Samuel Orr sold property in Culpeper in 1784 and then appears in Nelson Co. KY as does Mary, so I believe Mr. Smith died in Virginia, possibly in the Revolution? Anyway, I thank you for your wonderful website. I was happy to find Mary's maiden name and thrilled to find so much history on her family. Let me know if you'd like details on this small branch of the family. Thanks again!

My Comments: Mrs. Barney, you have made my day. I've been researching my branch of the Peyton family (through west virginia) for a long time and even though I've managed to come up with a few numbers, I've never managed to find stories like the ones you've given me to read today. I'm new to Austin, and it's a wonderful thing to read that my very distant relatives have even had an impact down here, via Angelina Belle Peyton Eberly and the Archives War. My only complaint is that you stopped your records at 1832. Is there more info, and more fantastic stories that you have to share? Please email me!!

My Comments: Hello Neddy, I was led to your site by my search for Edward Boswell of Prince William County, VA. I was especially surprised to find him as a prover for the will of Henry Peyton. For him to be called to court along with one of the sons, Valentine, to prove the will of Henry Peyton, meant that he had more than just a cursory knowledge of the man, his business and his family. During further investigation of the Peyton family, I found that they had a propensity for using the given name of Craven within their family. I descend from Edward Boswell, who left Prince William County, Va to settle into Caswell County, NC. One of the interesting features of this family is the use of the given name of Craven. A second Boswell, Hezekiah, also introduced the given name of Craven to the population of Caswell County, NC. Both Boswells also had a great penchant for the name of Catherine, most of whom, used the nickname of "Kitty" I would like to hear from you to see if you have by chance encountered any Boswell/Peyton marriages, as this seems to be the only explanation for the remarkable use of the given name of Craven, especially in conjunction with the given name of Catherine. My GG grandparents, George and Catherine Boswell Graham, had a daughter named Catherine, and a son named Craven. Catherine Boswell Graham was a daughter of Edward Boswell of Prince William County, Va and Caswell County, NC. I have enjoyed your site very much. Very best regards, John Fox Winston-Salem, NC
