Star Wars Letter by Nate2450 note- use word wrap to read this, under edit.
INTRODUCTORY REMARKS Every time I go into a bookstore, I go right to the scifi section. Why? Well, watching The Movies 4 times a week apiece can get a little tiring, believe it or not. So what do I do? I read a Star Wars book. For me, every single SW book I have ever read has been worth it, even those three Lando books by L. Neil Smith. Star Wars gives me something to fall back on. I guess you could call it a pain killer. Sometimes if things don't seem to be going right in the real world, I read a book, most preferably a SW book. Sure, I would rather be a bounty hunter sometimes instead of a student, but I'm not certain I would live to long... Another thing. If some of you feel like you don't know enough about SW, try watching the background in The Movies (yes, I know Leia is pretty, but you can stand it) and looking at all the aliens and everything else. I bet you'll see things you never knew were there. Along those same lines, if you haven't read the original three SW books, read them. Once again, you'll learn new things.
CONTRIBUTIONS
None. Geez, aren't we a lively bunch.
MEMBER CHANGES
None, to my (superior) knowledge.
FACT
Lieutenant Page is the head of the Katarn Commandos. They work for the New Republic, and are soldiers that can handle just about any mission. This may be common knowledge to some of you, but what about Kyle Katarn, the main character in Dark Forces, the computer game? Is this a coincidence? I don't know, but if anyone does, please mail me, and Rempy.
REMINDERS
*If you cancel your account, or just flat out don't like our company, email our fearless leaders, Rempy, CaptPalp, and Jedi99. Thanks
*Just so you all know, it's not against the law to contribute things to this letter. If you have something to say, ANYTHING, about SW, just mail Rempy. He has told me himself he doesn't mind feedback. This way we'll have more neat stuff to read every weekend when we get our letter from him. :)
"DON'T GET TECHNICAL WITH ME," -C3PO NEW! (for one week)
For all of you out there that have a sound card (8 bit or better), and don't know about waves (no, not those kind!), you are in for a treat. I visit the SW chat room, and I was surprised to notice that many people didn't know about waves! Oh, the horror! You can get sound clips from SW and play them on your PC (I'm not sure if they work on Macs, for all you losers). I like to just listen to them, but you can also associate them with your system sounds.
To get the waves, first go to keyword FILE SEARCH. Then, click on the box for music & sounds. Third, type in the box at the bottom STAR WARS. Click OK. You then get a listing of tons of waves (about 250) and a few MIDI files. Simply read the descriptions and download the ones you like. For me, running at 14.4bps, download time is, on average, 1 minute. Email me, Nate2450, if you have trouble. Enjoy!
STAR WARS AND RELATED GAMES AND ENTERTAINMENT NEW! (for one week)
One of the new things Lucasarts has put out is the _Lucasarts Archives vol.1_ (or no.1, I can't remember). It includes 6, count'em, 6 CDs for $30. The highlights of this package are the complete SW screen saver (I saw it in a store for $30 by itself!), _Indy Jones and the Fate of Atlantis_, _Sam and Max Hit the Road_, and _The Day of the Tentacle_. Also included is three levels from _Rebel Assault_, not the whole game, mind you. Still, it's worth it if you don't have the best-selling game. The sixth and final CD is full of demos. There is a demo for _Rebel Assault II_ (!) and for _Tie Fighter- The Collector's CD_. Other demos included are _The Dig_ and _Full Throttle_. I'm going to snatch this one up, and soon. I suggest you do, too. Hey, it's from Lucasarts, what can be wrong?

BOOK REVIEW NEW! (for one week)
_STAR WARS- Tales From the Mos Eisley Cantina_ edited by Kevin J. Anderson
I entered my bookstore with the hope a new SW book would be on the shelves. Well, they aim to please. I snatched up the last copy they had of TFTMEC as quick as I could and bought it. What it is is a collection of "Sixteen stories from the most infamous cantina in the universe... by some of today's leading writers of science fiction." They were right when they said leading writers! Kevin J. Anderson, Barbara Hambly, Rebecca Moesta, Kathy Tyers, Tom & Martha Veitch, Dave Wolverton, and Timothy Zahn all write stories in this one. Some of the other authors I have heard about, but not read. I stick with the SW part of scifi. When I finished reading, I thought, this was a good book, not a great one. Why not great? Because some of the stories were just plain dumb, but others were awesome. Like the one about Greedo, and the other about the Stormtrooper. These were the pick of the litter. All the stories have something in common. At least one section of each story refers to or is happening when Luke and Obi-Wan enter the cantina and find a pilot. What I like best about the book is that it serves as a "filler", meaning it fills in all those gaps you wondered about of those aliens lives that you see just for a second or two. Greedo's past is filled, you find out about the Tonnika sisters and what they were doing at the bar (that story has a neat twist), and you learn about Wuher the bartender and how he feels about droids. Most every alien you see in the cantina in the movie ANH is written about. I believe this book was worth the six bucks I put down for it, and I think you will too. I give it *** out of ****. Gladly, this isn't the only book for the "Tales". There will also be _Tales From Jabba's Palace_ and _Tales of the Bounty Hunters_. All right! "Bounty hunters, we don't need their scum."
LAST WEEK'S QUESTION: Who do you think would win in a fight, Claire Danes or Alicia Silverstone?
LAST WEEK'S ANSWER:
Speedburn1 sez- Claire Danes
Yes! We have a unanimous decision! The vote is 1-0! What, you say we have about 50!!! members in the club, and the vote is one to nothing? Uhhh... well, I guess The Bomb has gone off. Japan finally came to their senses. Too bad. And I really enjoyed their company.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What character appears most on the covers of the Zahn Trilogy, the Jedi Academy Trilogy, and the first two books of the Corellian Trilogy (for those that don't know, the third in that trilogy isn't out yet) besides the Big Three, Han, Luke, and Leia? I'll mail Rempy the answer. (It's not too tough)
THIS WEEK'S ANSWER: ____________?
CLOSING REMARKS
If you couldn't tell, I have lots of free time on my hands. So if any of you guys or gals want to send me (Nate2450) something about anything (like clubs and stuff like that), I'd be glad to read it and do anything with it. I know this is an odd request, but just send me SOMETHING! Another thing, does anyone in this club live in the 203 phone number area, and is into modem gaming? I need to play against somebody. Thanks to Rempy for giving me this opportunity to do something with my free time. May the Force be with you.
There we were, three against a thousand. They were the toughest three we ever fought.
