Cycling in Cyberspace
San Francisco: Bicycle Books, Inc., 1996
(160 p) Welcome to our work in recognition of the cyberheros of the online cycling community! In fact, you may want to check our list of special thanks, either in the book or here for illustration credits and here for written contribution credits. We also have the full Table of Contents with links to all the sites reviewed. Feel free to read the Introduction, too. Here's information on other fine books by Bicycle Books, Inc., which has recently merged with Motorbooks International (Osceola, WI -- 715-294-3345). Be sure to visit the Web site of another Bicycle Books author, Richard Rafoth, MD, who provides great information on cycling performance & nutrition topics. Not surprisingly, we had to leave out more resources than we put in the book, and new cyclists keep pouring into cyberspace. I recently (10/01) went through the post-book sites club to eliminate sites that have disappeared since 1996. Those listed are still alive & kicking, so you know they must be worth visiting! Robert is licensed by the USCF and races as a member of Team Internet. Watch this space for information on training for and racing in time trials, especially those scheduled in the Northern Neck and central Virginia! We both highly recommend RacerMate's CompuTrainer. Click here for Robert's review. If you are interested in a review of the Javelin Aero, then click here If you're looking for a good home for old (or new) bicycle parts, try contacting the Major Taylor Cycling Club in Palo Alto, CA. If you're looking for a good mail order company through which to buy parts and accessories at the lowest possible prices, check out our friends at L. Bico (or call 517-743-5987 & ask for the catalog -- it's worth it!). And, since Robert and I both love roller coasters, we couldn't neglect John Consolati's The Human Powered Rollercoaster, an over-under, figure-eight velodrome built first in Vancouver and, at last word, reconstructed in Toronto. Well, sadly, I've decided to add a page of triathlete/ironman links in memory of a friend of ours who died unexpectedly while training -- Scott Godfrey. He was a terrific guy and would have wanted something useful to commemorate him, so here's some tri stuff that didn't make it in the book but should be helpful to folks working to make their first start or their best time. Climb back into The Treehouse. |
