Creation
A letter to Ben:
I think the universe came into being, with everything so perfectly
fine tuned to lead to stars, galaxies, life and humanoid intelligence,
because you created it. I created it. This is perhaps the radical thing
about the mystic's view of divinity. You are god. I am god. The terrorists
of 9/11 have deep within them a soul which is never sullied, never evil,
even when deeply buried inside a body and a mind which is twisted,
and ignorant. I have read that some people can remember being galaxies
under LSD. I think that is right. We were the soul of the galaxy, and
the soul of this solar system and the soul of this planet and many other
things before we became Ben and Chris. We are all ocean, though some
times we become lakes or snowflakes, only to eventually return to the
ocean, in a billion or trillion years. That is why I object to Buddhism.
They want to return to the ocean and quit reincarnating immediately.
There is no hurry. We live in a rich but also confusing place where the
divine purpose is often forgotten and mankind has to remind us again by
mystics, who come into this world in every Century, in every part of the
world.
The mistake of Judaism-Christianity-Islam is to personalize the Ocean.
That is wrong. Divinity is the sum total of all souls over the entire universe
and maybe other universes as well. God doesn't kill children. God doesn't
crash airplanes. People ask, how could god allow this?
It was 29 crazy suicidal stupid terrorists who allowed this. They were inflamed by alleged men of
Allah, the Mullahs, who have forgotten the great mystics of their own tradition,
people like the Poet Rumi. Yet these 29 hijackers are also god. Do
not blame the ocean for the stinging pellets of sleet. It is also ocean,
and to ocean it will eventually return.
