This is a photograph of the
Regimental colors of the 20th Massachusetts Infantry. At
Fredricksburg after crossing the river in pontoons, the 20th
helped storm the town, losing 163 dead and wounded while
displaying, in the words of one officer, "unflinching bravery and
splendid discipline".
