As you drive through the community of Sea Girt you can not help noticing the grand summer
homes built years ago. The large porches that wrap around the homes beckon
you to sit on them and relax in a rocking chair while feeling the ocean breezes.
Each house as its own unique character,
and the Sea Girt lighthouse fits right in.
The lighthouse is at the end of Beacon and Ocean, the last building in a string of houses.
It's as if someone built there summer home and decided to include a lighthouse.

| DIRECTIONS: | ||
|
From the Garden State Parkway take Route 34 to route 35.
From 35 take route 71 to Beacon.
The light house is at the end of the road on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
There is a parking lot in front of the lighthouse. Or take route 38 to 71 through Spring Lake. |

|
One of the disappointing things about the Sea Girt lighthouse is that
someone on some planning board years ago had the bright idea of
putting a rest-room facility right in front of the lighthouse.
So what was once a beautiful ocean view with a beach and a lighthouse,
now includes a square cinder block rest-room bunker.

| WHILE YOU ARE THERE: | ||
|
Sea Girt is a quit ocean side community filled with interesting architecture.
There are a few nice bed and breakfast inns to stay at. For a little more noise you can venture a Frisbee throw north to the town of Belmar. This beach attracts a lot of people in their twenties. For a really loud time head south to Sea Side Hights, were you will find rides, roller coasters, games, and food along the board walk. There is always swimming at $5 a person for beach access. (That does no guarantee that there will be a place to put your beach blanket.)
