Herbs for Fertility and Conception

According to Susun Weed, herbs used to encourage pregnancy:

  • nourish and tonify the uterus
  • nourish the body
  • relax the nervous system
  • establish and balance hormones
  • balance the sex drive

The following herbs are listed in the order of their effectiveness:

Red Clover is highly recommended for both men and women. Its high mineral and vitamin content help to achieve the above effects. Red clover is usually combined with Peppermint--infuse one ounce of red clover blossoms and a teaspoon of peppermint in a quart of water for four hours. Drink freely throughout the day.

Nettle Leaves have high mineral and chlorophyll content, making it excellent for the hormonal system. Drink one or more cups of infusion daily for as long as necessary.

Red Raspberry Leaves are an effective uterine tonic and have great amounts of calcium. It is most effective when combined with Red Clover. Infuse one-half ounce of Red Clover blossoms and one-half ounce Raspberry leaves in a quart of water for four hours. Drink one or more cups daily. You can also increase the fertility promoting qualities of Red Raspberry Leaf by adding 5-15 drops of Dong Quai root tincture or False Unicorn Root tincture to your cup of Raspberry leaf infusion.

Dong Quai Root is helpful in normalizing menstrual cycles. It is also known as a fertility enhancer. Best results occur during the days between ovulation and menstruation and discontinuing from the beginning of menstrual flow to ovulation. Caution: take Dong Quai only in combination with other herbs.

False Unicorn Root is also a strong uterine tonic. It is known as "the" herb for infertility. Take 5-15 drops of the tincture per day or sip one-half cup of infusion (if available loose) per day.
