Super Buster
Bros.
This and Buster Bros.
are two of my favorite games because they are different. They came
out in a time when every game was a Double Dragon knock-off. Buster
Bros. are more like an older-style, Arkanoid-type game. You shoot
harpoons (and bullets) at bouncing bubbles and spinning hexagon
things. Every one you shoot turns into two smaller ones.
It has great, realistic-looking
backgrounds.
The biggest improvement over
Buster Bros. is that you can now select the Panic Mode or the Tour
Mode.
The Panic Mode is my
favorite of the two. Instead of stopping between levels, this mode
keeps going and going, with backgrounds changing every once in a
while. There are no platforms in this mode, it's just you and the
bubbles. It gets harder and harder by increasing the speed and amount
of the bubbles. You get one game and no continuing in Panic Mode. If
a second player is going to play, he must start from the beginning,
with player one. It supposedly never ends, but I'm guessing it ends
or starts over after level 99. I've made it to 80-something. How far
have you made it??
The tour mode is like
playing Buster Bros., only with all-new levels.
This board quit on me 4
days after I got it. Someone fixed it for me. It had the "Capcom
Battery Problem." You can read about it, and how to fix it at
http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/Node/8768/. Below are some pictures of the board and
it's repaired place. About a month after I had it fixed, it quit on
me again. Fortunately, I was able to make this page before it
quit.
TRICKS:
If you hold DOWN while
playing in panic mode, you will get 500 points ever few seconds, but
at the same time, about four times the usual amount of bubbles will
come out.
Also in panic mode, if you
dodge the bubbles instead of shooting them for about the time it
takes for the background song to repeat, you will get 10,000 points.
However, the speed of the bubbles will suddenly become ridiculously
fast and you almost have to die.
Watch the game
demonstration and read the bottom of the screen for another
trick.
MUSIC
I really like the music on the
Buster Bros. games because it sounds like an older Yamaha keyboard.
