Image of Hereford Inlet Lighthouse
Zoë Madans of Bridgeton NJ has produced this striking, modern 4x6 postcard of the Hereford Inlet lighthouse at North Wildwood NJ. This lighthouse is a beautifully restored example of the Victorian stick-style architecture often used by the U. S. Light House Establishment in the 19th Century. Very few like it remain today.

The Caption on the reverse side reads:

Hereford Inlet Lighthouse also once known as Anglesea was built in 1872 & first lit on April 25, 1874. The beam radiated a fixed white light from a 4th order Fresnel lens at a distance of 14 miles out to sea, discontinued in 1964 with the keepers house being seriously neglected, once again relit in 1986. The beacon serves as a tourist attraction, museum, gift shop and monument to those who so bravely risked their lives to guide others to safety. On September 20, 1977 was listed on the National Historic Register.

Zoë and I have been pen pals and have traded lighthouse postcards and photos for nearly three years.

Zoë plans to issue 2 more views of Hereford Inlet in 1996.
