DAVE KRAMER - Photographer,
Lorain OH USA

Many thanks to Dave Kramer, an energetic member of the Board of the Lorain Lighthouse preservation group. He took the stunning picture, on the right, from a helicopter. He has agreed to share it with lighthouse lovers on the Internet. The second picture, on the left, also by Dave Kramer, shows the stage of the exterior renovation through Fall 1999.
In January 2000, Dave writes:
| "I believe that in my last
letter to you that the exterior restoration work had started on the Lorain Lighthouse. It
started in Aug '98 and didn't get finished until mid Nov in 1999. If you are counting,
that is 15 months. Needless to say, there was a lot more work than at first thought and
some unexpected problems also slowed things down. But the good news is that the outside
work is now all done. The photo I'm sending was taken before all the work was finished and all of the shutters still were not back on and there was still some scaffolding to be removed, but that is now all done and I do not have any photos showing its current appearance. We close everything up for the winter but I'll get a new photo for you the first chance that I get in the Spring and you can add it to the one that you had previously put on the Internet. We are also putting night time floodlighting around the building and that should be real nice. . . . With the outside work finished at the lighthouse we will get back to completing the interior before we'll be able to do regular tours. The inside is about half done and when the contractors were working on the outsides, the inside work that is being done by volunteers pretty much comes to a stop. . . . It should be all done in a couple more years and I really look forward to that time." |
Dave and I met by mail as fellow members of the U. S. Lighthouse Society. We have traded many lighthouse postcards and photos.
