Just when I think I am understanding this YCOR stuff, I get all confused.  I thought that no one dies unless they want to. Maybe Edgar wanted to be so committed to helping others that he would die doing it.  Or perhaps he was ready to move on to something new and was taking in as much of the trance experience as he could before beginning his new venture.

Donna:  Although I'm sure Edgar could explain it in YCOR terms, my guess is that he knew what he was doing -- it was 1945, there was a lot of suffering going on, & he probably believed he was sacrificing himself for a just cause.  He was also probably tired and worn out, which may have had something to do with it.

Upon reflection, 1945 was like the end of a period, not just the war -- like the curtain coming down in a play.  Not an unlikely moment to "leave the theatre."

Maybe a relevant note: Edgar Cayce developed his ability to "disassociate" himself from his body during an incarnation when he was wounded and lay dying in the dessert - the pain was so great that he "willed" himself free of his body.

According to the books on Cayce, he was committed to helping others.  He knew what he was doing when he continued to channel.  This latter part of his life occured in WW2, so things were pretty fraught for the people seeking his help.  He just couldn't say no.
