I believe our British correspondent once told us, those hats could, in the case of emergency, to
be used to pith/in !!

When we talk of Earth Coordination Points, we include places like Egypt
(the great pyramids), Stonehenge, Easter Island, The Bermuda Triangle, and so forth. Some of
these places may not be too computerized...
