How about 'moose'? I love the word 'moose'. I often use it as a sort of wild-card word, in place of any word that I'm bored of using. I recommend it. It does tend to lead to a fair amount of confusion though.

Hi, all.

I'm new to the list.  Have read "all" the Seth books, as far as I know, but it's been years...

Question: maybe I missed something important, but what is a *moose*?!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Greetings Jean!  Welcome to the SETHWORKS list!  The "moose" business started not long ago when someone observed that they hated the term "Sethian" as an adjective to describe folks like us.  James Evans in the U.K. offered his favorite "wild card" adjective and it stuck.

As Jim Grunwald, with tongue firmly implanted in cheek, observed:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well, one of the linguistic scholars on this list mentioned that the proper word to use when none other will suffice, is "moose". Since that enlightened message various folks among us have attempted to integrate this truth into our lives. You know -- not just talk the walk, but moose the moose.

The head moose, while not hitherto referred to as such, can be none other than that favorite discarnate energy personality who Ouija'd his way into Jane's life, the inimitable Seth.

So now it's used as a sort of "in" joke and now you are "in" on it. ;)

P.S. I don't think it's fair that I'm getting all the blame for this moose thing. I tried to warn you, right from the outset, that it would lead to confusion. But would any of you listen?

James cannot give up really, and explains on August 16,1995

to Maggie, who asked, what else, >What's the Moose thing?

Do you know this drawing has at least two images in it?
One is of the moosehead (brew-ding over some grass?) which I didn't catch until just now.
What I thought it was at first, is a human or angel with wings and feet pointed up, landing on its heels!  The head is the two brackets between the wings.
It could also be the top view, looking down on a v-shaped jet, exhaust spewing from the tailwings in two trails.

Laura contributed the following observation, Sept 30,1995

Jamie Sams has gathered the symbolism relating to various animals from a variety of Native American traditions. As we have chosen the Moose I thought it would be interesting to see what she's put together on this noble animal.  Here are some quotes:

"Moose is found in the North of the Medicine Wheel. . . .  North represents the place of wisdom.  Self-esteem is the medicine of Moose because it represents the power of recognizing that wisdom has been used in a situation and that recognition . . . is deserved."

Interesting to me, because North in many traditions is representative of a spiritual direction.  Also interesting is the connection to wisdom (the wisdom that Seth passed on to us).

"The bellow of a male Moose can be viewed as a positive force, since it represents his willingness to 'tell the world' about his feelings."  I'm lol (laughing out loud) at this point.

"This 'tell the world' trait contains a joyfulness which only comes with a sense of accomplishment. . . . This trait is . . . not a seeking of approval, but rather an enjoyment of sharing because of the spontaneous explosion of joy that comes from the deepest part of one's being.

"The wisdom woven throughout this scenario is that creation constantly brings forth new ideas and further creation."

"The elders are honored in tribal law for their gifts of wisdom, for their teaching abilities, and for the calmness they impart in Council."

I suggest that the chosen symbol is far, far more appropriate than anyone ever thought!

Joyfully,
Laura

That sort of wraps it up.

 Footnote on pithy:>
Vjim advised us to be pithy in our remarks
>That was enough for James:
>                   ;  James pith factor falling Evans

> PS I looked up 'pith' too. Did you know that it can mean 'slaughter animal
> by severing spinal cord'? Urrrrrrr.

Uh..oh, then clearly I'm being "pithy" today.  Turned seven of our meat chickens into freezer stock about an hour ago...

Stephen  :)

You can then understand what lots of pith came after that.

That concludes the tour of our SETHWORKS Mooseum.  Many thanks to Anna V. who compiled this wonderful file from the Sethworks mailing list postings.  I tried to take as few liberties as possible in editing it for this Web page.  Click here to view additional SETHWORKS subscriber comments on our choice of the word "Moose."
