Eagles- The Concert
The Concert

Nassau Coliseum, Jun 24, 1996

Some sunny morning in, what, March(??) found me on the phone at nine in the morning, waiting for tickets to go on sale for the June 24 show. At 8:50, I started calling Ticketmaster, and got a recording. I tried repeatedly...dial, recording, hang up, dial, recording, hang up. Finally, the recording was replaced with....a busy signal. This was the case for the next TWO HOURS. Not being an avid concert-goer, I was not used to this. Finally, I was put on hold for 20 minutes, and got four tickets to the event. I knew I had great seats, since I called so early. I was wrong.

Had the concert been for anyone else, I would have minded the long wait for the expensive seats way in the back. But I was in heaven, finally going to see the Eagles with my sister and father and friend. After a quick stop at a pizza joint, we found our seats (How much were these tickets again, Burke? Don't worry about it, Dad.) and waited. We get the "10 minute warning" message. Finally, the lights dim and the crowd roars. Onstage, lights flash and thunder rumbles. This virtual storm goes on for a few minutes and, suddenly, the opening to "Hotel California" is playing, and one by one the lights come up on the band. Truly an amazing beginning.

The band went on to play many of thier more popular songs. There were some hilarious moments from Joe Walsh during some of solo-album songs. Henley's more popular solo work was played as well. As this was the warm-up for the European Tour, the setlist was somewhat different from what I had heard. Probably the biggest surprise of the night came when Glenn and the band broke into "Peaceful Easy Feeling", one of my and my father's favorites. The two-act show went on to four encores including "Take it Easy". Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact setlist, and all I really remember clearly is my state of bliss all through the concert. So for any fans out there who missed them this year, let's hope they come around again. It's worth it for sure.
