International University of the Gullah/Geechee Nation

Founded in 2002 by the Wisdom Circle Council of Elders and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, this is the first university of its kind. The instructors of the International University of the Gullah/Geechee Nation are natives of the Nation. In addition, the courses offered all show direct linkages to Gullah/Geechee history, heritage, and cultural practices no matter what field they are in. This institution which lies in the heart of the Nation will allow students to do field work among and with the people of the Gullah/Geechee community in order to allow accuracy in the research that they are doing amidst this unique ethnic group as they matriculate.

Currently the IUGGN is offering four year undergraduate degrees and certificated programs. In additon, they are allowing graduate study students to complete their required thesis work via partnership programs with other universities of the world as well as the research resources of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition and Avery Research Center.

De Lee Peepol College is an institute for Gullah/Geechee children which will insure their ability to carry on the traditions and continue to hold on to the land that they are heirs to in the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Scholarships to the university will be offered for the students that graduate from the Lee Peepol College and seek to continue their higher learning within the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
