This internationally known histo-musical presentation troupe was founded by “The Art-ivist,” Marquetta L. Goodwine. Since its founding, Ms. Goodwine has since been enstooled as “Queen Quet.” Shis the Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and is the first
Queen Mother for Gullah/Geechee People.






De Gullah Cunneckshun members are natives of the Sea Islands and Lowcountry which is the Gullah/Geechee Nation. They present history, “folklore,” songs, and in Gullah, Geechee, and in
English. These tools of the oral tradition are interwoven with the polyrhythms that grew in the rich soil of their homeland.






CDs and Cassettes

De Gullah Cunneckshun has done presentations throughout the United States and internationally. They learned their traditions as they grew up, continue to live, and work on the island. They share the authentic sounds from the praise house floors and beneath the oak trees of the Sea Islands as they have personally experienced these.

Each year De Gullah Cunneckshun does a world tour in order to do fundraising for various Gullah/Geechee projects and to provide global education on the Gullah/Geechee history, heritage, and culture. They present at a number of different types of venues. They also donate proceeds from their products to the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition.

This CD version of the first cassette that De Gullah Cunneckshun ever released became available in August 2003. This is a journey into the Gullah/Geechee Nation to the plantations that brought about the evolution of the rich unique culture off the coast of the United States of America called “Gullah./Geechee.”


This collection takes the listener on a journey from accapella to the blues of Sea Island gatherings to thanksfiled jazz. This is a compilation of traditional Gullah/Geechee spirituals, stories, history, and dance music. The Gullah/Geechee language goes on a journey through the storm that brought this culture to North America to the surviving faith that endures amidst the Spanish Moss of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
