I've had a number of odd jobs (some of them very odd) from time to time over the years not covered by the outline above. Here's a partial list:
  • "Ranch hand" (cleaning stables, pitching hay, building fences) (a couple of times)
  • Newspaper delivery truck helper
  • Pizza cook
  • Air conditioning coil assembler
  • Draftsman
  • Janitor
  • Railroad track crewman (clearing jungle in East Texas)
  • Market research interviewer
  • Library assistant (a couple of times)
  • Newspaper mailroom insert stuffer
  • Mental hospital "technician" (large guy in white coat a la One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)
  • Law clerk

"The life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story, and writes another; and his humblest hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make it." -- James Barrie (Scottish novelist, who wrote the play Peter Pan in 1904)

As we grow older

The world becomes stranger, the pattern more complicated

Of dead and living. Not the intense moment

Isolated, with no before and after,

But a lifetime burning in every moment.

-- T.S. Eliot, East Coker
