PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11 MAY 2001
INVITATION TO BWMA'S CONFERENCE - A NEW STRATEGY
Members of the press are invited to attend as guests at BWMA's Annual Conference on Saturday 19 May, 2001 - opening at 2.00pm and closing at 4.30pm - in the Quality Hotel, West Street, Brighton, to hear BWMA's plans for the defeat of compulsory metrication.
SIR PATRICK MOORE, CBE, DSc, FRAS
Will call for a national campaign of civil disobedience by consumers - to insist on being served in imperial weights and measures - and defiance of the regulations by traders - to paralyse the Local Authorities' prosecution machinery.
NEIL HERRON (STEVE THOBURN'S PARTNER IN CRIME FOR SELLING IN POUNDS AND OUNCES)
Will reveal preparations for the Appeal against Steve's conviction and for the defence of other honest retailers whose prosecutions are pending.
CHRISTOPHER BOOKER - THE FOE OF BUREAUCRATIC TYRANNY
Will outline the political implications of the metrication issue for the General Election and the attitude of the parties in the new House of Commons.
MICHAEL SHRIMPTON, BARRISTER AT LAW
Will describe the vital constitutional importance of our campaign. He will explain how the compulsory metrication laws will be soon challenged under the European Convention of Human Rights
BWMA OFFICERS
Will explain how the government can get itself off the hook of the detested prosecutions of honest traders for complying with the wishes of the vast majority of their customers, ie. selling in imperial measures. These options include:
the "de-authorisation" solution, the Canadian "moratorium" and the US "dual marking" reconciliation.
