G.C.&S.F. NORTHERN DIVISION - PAULS VALLEY DISTRICT

This is the only structure left on the Pauls Valley District. It is a bridge just south of Wanette which crosses the South Canadian River. You can actually drive over this narrow one lane bridge. Vandals burned the wooden planks laid on the bridge several years ago and the counties which maintain the bridge today decided to lay pavement. Today a county road runs on a small portion of the roadbed between Wanette and Byars. It is rough terrain and it is likely that it was costly for the railroad to build and maintain. This probably led to its abandonment. This area of Oklahoma is poor and hilly. It is also doubtful that the Santa Fe gained much from local traffic in this area. It was truely an interesting section of the railroad.
