Occasionally the Santa Fe constructed depots to a unique plan. Garnett is one of these structures. The closest approximation to its plan are the Streator, Illinios and Augusta, Kansas depots. Equally odd is the fact that this depot lacks an overhang for protection of its passengers in inclimate weather. Photos of the depot exist from the passenger era and not even a platform cover existed for this purpose. The depot is used today as a watering hole for the Prairie Spirit Trail which is a Rails-to-Trails railbanking project.

This bridge still stands south of Garnett. It is now a walking bridge for the trail mentioned above. It is a sturdy bridge and those who constructed it were obviously proud as they placed a plaque on a support which can be seen in the lower right portion of this photograph. It is a handome bridge with Santa Fe Standard signs.

...And here is the plaque.
