READING, KANSAS

Passenger Train Schedule November 29, 1942

6:09am No. 26 Eastbound Doodlebug
10:01pm No. 25 Westbound Doodlebug

Reading is one of many small Kansas farm towns built along the Santa Fe right-of-way. Again, many passenger trains ran through town but they didn't stop. Only the doodlebug paused to pick up and leave passengers at this depot.

This is the last depot standing between Osage City and Emporia. It has been moved offsite to a city park and now serves as a community center. Other depots of this unusual design were built in Cimarron, and Spearville. The choice of color here is unfornuate. I am uncertain as to whether this was a railroad color or it was repainted in this shade after moving. The depots in Cimarron and Spearville are much more colorful.
