A few years ago, I had came up with a concept of having another ship after
the Enterprise was gone. I was always fond of the nebula class starship that
was started from "The Wounded" Next Generation episode. I tried to heavily
design a ship that was similar to the U.S.S. Phoenix, but I did not want
the same design. After a year or so fiddling with the design, I thought -
Aww who cares, I want it to be a nebula class starship!
The concepts of the crew had been built also. A few though have changed. Two in particular. Misty Wilcox and Phil Carpenter. Misty and Phil were made to start on DS9 and come to the Atlantis later. The concept of having Misty and Phil be more than ordinary humans was what I had thought to be a stroke of genius, since writers never really got into genetically engineered humans. Until now. With the story of Bashir, do I have to change these two characters? My answer is, a little. I still feel having these characters with their extra-ordinary abilities would be a unique story. The ideas for DS9 episodes are to make these characters grow, to be used against the Dominion, etc. See below for more info.
The crew:
Captain: Chris Bishop
1st Officer: Brian Redd
Ops: Chip Dehaan - a cyborg
Negotiations Officer (a little bit like the counselor): Misty Wilcox
Security Chief: Cruz - a Tarchi (my own creation - martial artist like with electrical field within body.
Medical Officer: Dr. Selar - remember her? (The Schizoid Man!)
Chief of Engineering: Oscar Scott (great-great-great grandson of Montgomery Scott!)
Engineering Assistant: Annira Verla
Conn (the naive ensign!): Phil Carpenter
The Atlantis will have a crew of 500 or so, and will be traveling a lot like the Enterprise has done. The Atlantis was a ship for battle, but has been updated for exploration and special missions convoy.
Chip Dehaan is a man that has cyborg implants. He has a nasty temper, but as a cyborg he can scan any area and be a security officer at the same time. He has a tendency to be in the brig periodically, so he may not be around all the time.
Misty Wilcox is a mutant from a colony in the Vega system. She has powers such as telepathy and telekinesis. She is somewhat older, but is very loyal to the Federation (although the Federation wanted to test her like a guinea pig). She has had to proven herself constantly to the Federation of this. She believes she can help DS9 with the Dominion.
Cruz is a Tarchi who resembles an earth ninja. He is one of the first Tarchians to be a Lt. He is a very spiritual individual, yet fights like a Klingon. He has one power beyond humans, that he is able to store and extract electricity.
Phil Carpenter is also from the Vega system colony, and is known to be genetically engineered - but his powers have not surfaced. A great amount of scepticism has been put on him because of this. He is old enough to be a Lt., but because of what is known about him, he has not made Lt. when he could have. Also, when his powers become apparent, he will have to resign. He seeks Misty to help him find who that key is.
Annira Verla is a Bajorian woman who has a nack for engines. She has a small temper like most Bajorian women and you will know what is on her mind. One of her mentors was Ro Laren, when she got on the Enterprise, and she hopes to become one of the best Starfleet engineers. She also is fond of Phil Carpenter.
The concept of Misty and Phil to start on DS9, is based on several episodes.
1. "Friendship": It starts out with a 2-parter introducing the characters. This also introduces why they are friends and why Phil likes being around Misty. They are ordered on a rescue mission. While trying to perform the rescue they get trapped in a jail-like cell in an alien moon, the moon of the colony they were supposed to rescue. The aliens happen to "test" their subjects to different situations. Misty and Phil's friendship is taken at its fullest. At this moment, I had hoped to have them in the Gamma Quadrant, but that might change.
2. "The Mission": Phil takes up an offer from Odo to become a security officer. He not just accepts, but he takes his job real seriously. He is to find out what Quark is up to. So he asks Dr. Bashir to make him a Ferengi for a while.
3. "Martin": Episode is about Misty and her past. She has dreams of her dead son, named Martin. It seems that Martin comes as a ghost to her. But only she can see him. Martin contains an answer to someone else's problem.
4. "Q and Phoenix": Q comes in after Misty and Phil get into an accident and they miraculously survive. Supposedly, Misty "inheritely" receives the power of the Phoenix Force. This force is a part of the fires of life, Phil realizes (as in the Phoenix is known to be the bird of fire). The Phoenix gives her powers beyond belief. Q brings up a Borg ship, which Misty takes care of as fast as Q brought them up. Phoenix leaves. This episode is one of the episodes I really wanted, and according to the X-Men comics (which are based on mutants), Phoenix needs someone with Telepathy and Telekinesis. Phoenix will also give Misty a special ability that she never thought she could do! (The idea of the new ability is to mentally change her clothes!) Since I really wanted to have this episode, this was the big reason to have Misty be genetically engineered.
5. "New Life": Phil will find out about his abilities. It will be known that Misty IS the key and that she can unlock those powers. These powers are still in thought of what they really should be, first was a thought of being invisible and intangible with the ability to see in every spectrum. NOW: Phil will have abilities of morphing his body to an armored form. This armor has not been totally thought-out, but the idea is the armor is impervious to most phaser fire and even a glaze from a photon torpedo. Also, several shells (unknown substance at this time) can be made to fire upon an enemy. Sight/Sound is also enhanced with a small cloaking capability. This does sound unbelievable - but I think it might be kinda cool. Phil will resign from Starfleet and take on a certain job he has been working on - on DS9! This will also be the big fight with the Jem' Hadar, Dominion, and I guess the Cardassians for control of DS9. Guess who saves the day for once?!
Also a big part will be their fights with the Dominion. Physical and Mental:
6. "The Surprise": Misty, Odo, Sisko, Worf, and Phil are taken by surprise by the Jem 'Hadar. Sisko, Worf, Odo, and Phil fight them physically. Misty will get a mental attack by the Vorta, who does not know anything about Misty. Guess who wins?! Misty's abilities will be more known to the Dominion.
7. "Last Crusade": This happens to be one of the last episodes, Misty and Phil are on a mission to dismantle the Dominion. They are caught in a planet and have to find a way to survive. The Dominion, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, and Cardassians are well aware of what Misty and Phil are able to do.
Hopefully if any of this can be put in DS9, there are probably many changes to the basic story. If these two can have their "Genetically Enhancement", these stories can be made possible. There are always loopholes. And to think that we all thought Dr. Bashir was just a naive and annoying Dr.
The Atlantis has three observation labs that are major scanning regions for Stellar Cartography. Sickbay has been updated with a holographic doctor if the doctor is not available (Heaven forbid that the Great Dr. Selar will not be there, and anyway there is no permanent plan to have Dr. Selar die). Warp capacity has also been updated to reach warp 9.995 at extreme situations and for the time limit of one hour. The Atlantis is very maneuverable and contains quantum torpedos and type 12 phasers. It is rumored that the Atlantis may have a cloaking device, but according to the facts there will NOT be a cloaking device, but a sensor imaging device (that will somewhat cloak the Atlantis). This device will also detect cloaked ships. A magnetic pulse wave device has been added to the Atlantis. This pulse wave will disable all computer systems of the target. The Atlantis has also a Ship Ops, which helps Ops with communications and ship statuses. This is usually manned by the Negotiations Officer. The Negotiations Officer is also a new addition, that takes a telepathic individual to help with negotiations between alien races. The Negotiations Officer also can counsel other members, even though there are other conselors aboard. There are four shuttles and two runabouts. Shuttles: Austin, Martin, Rogers, and McAulaffe. Runabouts: Logan and Wagner. The Atlantis carries all types of probes (see Star Trek, The Next Generation Technical Manual for details) and also all types of torpedos. Here is a schematic of the Atlantis at this point.
The word Atlantis started out before writing began, as it was a small island somewhere in the atlantic. This island contained a people that had democratic ruling, used crystals for technology and other mystical means, and was in search of knowledge. The first space craft named Atlantis was the space shuttle, created in 1985. The Atlantis then became a space station for over 75 years near Vulcan for scientists and explorers. The first Atlantis started out as an Excelsior Class during the Khitomer Massacre. Ship was lost. Now a new one has been created.
