Dave -

Being a professional pilot for these past 25 years has kept me mildly in tune with the cause and effect of aircraft accidents. It has also allowed me to experience many varied and unusual events while airborne. Take this evening's flight for example: While returning to the San Francisco bay area, level at 24,000 feet, I was shocked to see a bright green flame streak earthward, seemingly inches in front of my cockpit. Of course, I had just experienced a near-miss by a meteorite.

What do you suppose the chances are that a white-hot meteorite sailed right through the thin aluminum skin of TWA's flight 800, and ignited the fuel-air mixture in the center tank of that 747? Right now, I'm thinking that in light of no proof of terrorism on that flight, the chances are pretty good.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Smith

A friend of mine was curious about the crash of Flt#800. His question is has anybody investigated the possibility of a missle that was unarmed hitting the aircraft causing the crash.

My husband is on the USS Grapple.

Where is the best source to get information about the Grapple as well as the investigation?

Is the NTSB still having briefings on CNN and when are they scheduled?

Thank you

The following information about TWA Flight 800 was received on the afternoon of 8/22/96. TWA flight 800 was shot down by a U.S. Navy guided missile ship which was in area W-105. W-105 is a Warning Area off the Southeast coast of Long Island and is used by the military for missile firing and other military operations. Guided missile ships travel all over the world defending the US and they were conducting practice firings up over the top of a Navy P-3 radar plane who was on a Southwest heading about over the top of TWA 800. Evidently the missile is supposed to go over the top of the P-3 and the accuracy of the missile is being measured by instrumentation in the P-3. There was a USAir flight coming from the Southeast descending towards Providence, RI that had been cleared to 21,000 feet and the TWA 800 aircraft was restricted to 13,000 feet. The air traffic controller requested the USAir flight to turn on his landing lights with the idea that TWA might see his lights and identify him. At that point, he would clear the TWA flight to continue his climb. The P-3 was a non-beacon target (transponder OFF) flying southwest in the controlled airspace almost over TWA 800 and made NO calls to ATC. After the explosion, he continued his flight to the west and then called ATC and asked if they would like him to turn around and assist with the –accident.” You will remember that the first announcement about this accident came form the Pentagon. The spokesman mentioned that they were sending the Navy to the crash site. They immediately sent a Navy Captain who was replaced the next day by an Admiral. That Admiral is still on the scene. The FBI has conducted at least 3,000 eyewitness interviews and the NTSB has not been able to be a part of these interviews and not have any access to the contents of them. Some of those eyewitnesses reported seeing lights. Those were probably the landing lights of the USAir plane. It has been a cover-up from the word go. The NTSB is there in name ONLY. All announcements made by Mr. Bob Francis say absolutely nothing, and notice that the FBI is always standing beside or behind Mr. Francis and it would appear that his job is to make sure that nothing is said that would give away –THE BIG SECRET!” It is time to end this farce and tell the public the real truth as to what happened to TWA 800. My source shall remain my own but the above information is true and I believe it will all become known soon, now that all of you know the real truth. end.

I was on Flight 800 Sunday July 14 with my wife to begin our honeymoon in Paris. We sat on the plane for over four hours during the tail-end of hurricane Bertha as mechanics replaced a hydraulic in one of the engines. Does anyone know if we were on the same plane that went down or if this information has any value?

About 1983 or 84 or so the Navy and in particular Naval Air Warfare Center Indianapolis and Patuxent River did a major study on the effects of different types of wire insulation and in particular how the insulation responds to electrical shorts.

Flight 800 was wired with KAPTON wire. To understand how Kapton wire in a fuel cell could cause a major explosion, one only has to read the final reports published by the Navy. As a result of the study the Navy purged Kapton insulated wire from all its maintenance facilities. Was there a Kapton short that caused an explosion in the center fuel tank?

I just heard on CNN that the investigation has centered on an explosion of the center fuel tank. Re-construction has suggested that there was no external bomb or missle that caused the tank to explode. Suppose someone was to put a bomb inside the tank, that either would be encapsulated that would desolve over a period of time and then explode either by chemical reaction or by some sort of electrical detection method. The bomb would not have to be very big just big enough to hold the electonics, or some chemical that once explosed to oxygen or jet fuel would ignite. Naturally, timing would be very difficult, but still possible if it encapsulated so it wouldn't desolve but would explode after a certain pressure or time point was reached. A bomb like this could have been deposited in the tank during maintenace anywhere in the world and at any time preceding the explosion even months. The device, being small and right in the middle of the explosion could have been totally consumed.

Well, that's might thoughts on the current thinking, hope it helps.

Dave,

I am a Electrical Engineer for at a Nuclear Power plant and today I was in a class on "Failure Analysis" conducted by a very prestigous enginering firm located in the Boston area. The instructor was a engineer specializing in polymers and he was involved in the analysis of the TWA 800 wreckage. In his words, on the day after the crash a piece of wreckage was retrieved and sent to him for analysis. His analysis revealed that two polymers were found on the wreakage. The polymers were rocket fuel that is only used on Military style multi-stage missles. The type of polymers that he found would not have been used by a bomb maker nor would they be expected to be found on a commercial jet. It seems that our goverment is hiding and covering up this information probably for political reasons.

Do you have any information regarding TWA 800 subsequent to the Sallinger statements to Associated Press? I would really appreciate any info you have.

Re: TWA 800 and missile theory. During the mid 80's I was the insurance broker that provided insurance on a research aircraft flown by a highly trained crew. This aircraft dissappeared without a trace off the California coast near an airspace warning area W-412. Because the military is know to fire missiles in the area we questioned them on the possibilities. They responded with complete denial and refused to release radar information that may have been helpfull in finding the answers for the families. When the government denies one must assume they are covering up something. Their record speaks for itself.

I believe flight 800 was destroyed by being struck by a fairly large object; either a re-entering orbiting object or a meteoroid. My opinion is based on something I saw at 8:39pm on the evening of the disaster.

I am not seeing much on the WEB anymore about the fact that it still is entirely possible that there is a huge coverup about the Navy training ship that was out at sea, seen by witnesses on the day of the horrible crash/explosion/disaster......I am the daughter of a TWA pilot whose life has forever been altered since this terrible tragedy occured....There is a lot of interesting information about radar files missing for that night only, and other records missing having to do with the Navy for that night only.....again, why are all the slooths and bloodhounds ignoring these facts, and why are the masses seeking to pinpoint the cause as a terrorist attack, or faulty mechanics......we live in a world where the truth often is stranger than fiction......I wish people would speak up and not be afraid to find the truth, even if it means our own government is accidently responsible.....I don't know anything but what airline professionals discuss, and what they say and what the news reports are saying are usually different......I just don't hear anyone pushing for what could really be the ugly truth......I fear it too.......I just want to believe the best of my country........

Dear Sir; A while ago I saw a military demonstration of a CO2 or other laser on television. The effect upon the metal plate of the beam was very destructive. Given that flight paths are specific and ordinary, could a laser be set up on shore in preparation for an overflying aircraft? What kind of hole would be made in an aircraft fuselage such as a 747 using such a device? I see on television today that the sky was remarkably clear and a comment was made about the sunset on July 17, 1996. Visual ranging would not have been a problem. I am not an expert but considering the numbers of flights with empty center tanks sitting on the ground in the hot tropics, and the 8-11 minutes duration, in cooler air, of the 800 flight, it would be surprising this type of disaster had not occurred previously. Was there someone specific on board? My comment

I have never felt right about the information/misinformation on TWA Flight 800. I have just read Mr. Sander's book, "The Downing of TWA Flight 800". I believe him to be credible. The only people we have disputing the friendly fire missile theory are the FBI, the NTSB and the Pentagon who have been proven to be untrustworthy many times. To mention a few times, we have Vietnam and the agent orange controversy, the Desert Storm sickness, bomb test here in Nevada where troops were used as guinea pigs and ash falling on people from the tests, the syphylis study using black people as guinea pigs, even the misinformation being published on air bags, and the list goes on.

I think it is time the government cleaned up its act, quit treating the citizens like their private property to use and abuse, and be honest for a change.

Hi,

I have been following the crash since 8:30 July 17, 1996. I was watching a show, when they stopped it to make the announcment. Ever since, I have been following it. I wish I can help in some way, but I don't know how. I had no relation to any of the victims, but it is just so upsetting to hear about it. I am so sorry that it happened and I send my condolences to the families of all the victims of the crash. How can I help with anything?

Thanks,

I realize that everyone has a theory, but please hear me out. I don't necessarily want to be right, but then it still won't bring back all those loved ones anyway.

I just have one nagging thought that has stuck with me since the night the news flash came over concerning TWA 800. I have tried to find a place to post my theory, not to be so much heard, but considered.

The witnesses (as best as I recall) all seemed to say the same basic thing. """ I heard a loud thunderous boom, like pyrotechnics, fire works, thunder, etc.. and I looked up and saw a giant fireball flash in the sky."""""" and it goes on from there.

Does anybody see a problem here, or did I miss something,?

The plane was approximately 5 to 8 miles off shore, if I am accurate, and these people heard it explode in time to look up and see it go in a large fireball????

What happened to the speed of light, versus the speed of sound ?

If a loud explosion occurs that far off shore, and the witnesses are on or near the beach, that plane should have been almost in the ocean by the time they heard it blow up.

I think the noise they heard as it hit water, was the impact sound which was actually delayed report from altitude, not pieces hitting water. Keep thinking time sequence, what did they look at while they listened ?

I wonder if a missile was launched from some point closer to land than the plane, allowing the high speed,(but probably not mach speed) missile to hit the plane at the same time it's launch was heard back on land.

That is the only way I can imagine a noise on land coinciding with an explosion several miles out.

I would welcome any comments on my thoughts, Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Bryan Sizelove

Have you read the book "The Downing of TWA Flight 800" by James Sanders? There seems to be some good evidence that an accidental missle hit brought down the airplane.

I heard on a recent edition of the Michael Reagan program that the FBI is going to arrest both James Sanders and his wife over the publication of the above book.

I don't believe the reports are necessarily true or fiction. The United States Gov't only tells the truth if it serves the purpose of whatever weasely burecrat is in charge of the information. Maybe in fifty years we'll know.

One of the theories put forth was that a faulty fuel pump in the center tank (empty) sparked the heated fuel vapors and caused an explosion. Why on earth would a fully loaded 747 leave New York for a trans-Atlantic flight with an empty tank? If the 747 is like other large jets, the center tank is a "clearing house" for all fuel that is strategically pumped into it from the wings so as to balance the fuel load and maintain stability of the aircraft. You would think a plane set for a trans oceanic flight would be "packed to the gills" with fuel??????

While at the Calverton hanger for the 1st anniversary an FBI agent said to me when I asked him why he thought that a missile was not involved. Well the satelite image shows no missile. I asked him why the families while at the hotel were told that no satelite images existed of the event. He quickly responded that he could not really discuss anything further about the satelite images due to national security.

My question: Has anyone ever reported any information about USAir Flight 3684 from Baltimore to MacArthur (Islip, Long Island) Airport the evening of March 17, 1996 -- four months to the day before TWA Flight 800 went down? Just after dark, the plane was beginning its approach to MacArthur, when there was an explosion just forward of the tip of the right wing -- a ball of bright orange that appeared from inside the plane to be about 20 feet in diameter, followed by a concussion that shook the plane. Everyone looked at everyone else: "What the hell was that?" No announcement from the cockpit. As we got off the plane, we asked the flight attendant, who didn't have a clue. Next day and on several occcasions afterwards, I sought information from the airline, the media, the FBI (Sorry, we can't comment on that, Ma'am). What happened? I could never find out. Does anyone know? If so, please refer me to sources.

How does the possibility of a laser weapon piercing the skin and igniting the fuel tanks sound? Using technology similar to what the government is working on for stopping incoming missile attacks by burning a hole in the missile, exposing it's fuel and ultimately causing it to explode prior to it's destination. Just a thought.

After the crash, there were several reports of near misses between military and commercial airliners. There were two off the coast of Florida, and several off the east coast.

My thought is the military jets were shadowing the airliners, since all military fighters are equipped with missile detection and countermeasure systems. This operation was possibly enacted to protect selected commercial flights.

As a Major in the USAF, and a fighter pilot, I have no direct knowledge of this. But I do have several pilots in my unit that were transferred out at this time for a special operation.

Food for thought

I read a number of the comments about TWA 800 and noticed that the great majority are about the cause that brought the plane down. I am writing as the mother of a 19 year old young man who was killed on that flight. I am having such a hard time moving on. I have been able to go back to work (altho it did take me 3 yrs) but I still can't sleep at night until very late, the depression come in huge waves and I miss him so much that at times it hurts to breathe. Thank G-d I have another son, who is 21 months older. He seems to be distancing himself from me. Maybe my pain is too hard for him to handle, I don't know because he won't say. I try very hard to behave as if everything is okay when I'm with him but the truth is that everything is not okay. No one seems to want to talk about my son that was killed. It makes me feels as if he has been forgotten. I have explained to everyone that I would appreciate it if they would talk about him from time to time. But, they don't. I would like some advice from someone out there who, unfortunately, has gone thru a similar experience. If not, please, don't respond. Thank you.

I have only a few comments: 1. Why was the crew of the navy ship in the area taken for a two day debrifing and forced to sign documents that would cost them their freedom if they ever spoke of this incident to anyone....2. Why was the findings from the University of Florida dimissed when it found that the residue on the seat cusions was that of solid rocket fuel type used by missils....3. Why don't the TV stations ABC or NBC the two that showed the footage of a orange smoke trail that led directly up to the 747 and imploded just before the jet exploded.....I have a copy of the Today program that aired the day after the downing of flight 800 and it shows that this was not an accident but some type of missil or similar item caused this plane to explode...4. Why did the FBI or the NTSB not demand that all 747's be grounded until they could find out why this happened...cud it be because they new why this plane came down and was not worried about the safety of the other 747's I wonder?? This is just another tragady that our government for the people by the people won't let the people know the real truth....are they really that stupid that they feel we can't handle it.....I guess this will be like the coverup of the Kennedy assassination....since it seems our government took part in that too.......I wish to express my deepest sympathys to the families friends and loved ones that have suffered from the tragedy of this TWA flight 800 and I wish you all had the truth, it can't bring them back but could help bring closure to this issue.

After reading Sander's book " The Downing of TWA 800" It certainly seems clear to me that the impossible coverup that I thought could never succeed has indeed! What -if anything- can the average citizen do besides cringe in fear when we fly again?? Will i be the next victim of a wayward standard missle? Will ,my friends or family?? What action can we take that will not get us imprisoned for life?? Accountability in any bureaucracy is the most difficult task in the world. Everyone is so invested in covering their own rear ends so that they can protect their careers, the real truth NO matter how important to everyone is the last thing served. My sincere wishes go out to the Sanders' who have courageously stood out from this stew of cowardice and fear to help shed light on what is definitely another black mark on our nation's government.
