Around the World in Eighty Days

Postcard Exchange

In Autumn (Fall to our American readers) 1996, cubs in the UK celebrated the 80th Anniversary of Cub Scouting. The theme for the celebrations was Around the World in Eighty Days. As part of this event, Kotick Cubs sent postcards to Cub Packs in many parts of the world. The idea was for Packs to send postcards to other packs and thus receive postcards from all around the world. These could then be displayed in Pack headquarters to illustrate the "World-wide Brotherhood of Scouts".

Steve Plater, Cub Scout Leader, built up a list of interested Packs, including their mailing addresses, and this was E-Mailed around the world to those Packs. Packs then sent postcards to as many other packs on the list as they could.

Kotick Cubs wrote over 70 postcards. The boys enjoyed their evening writing the postcards to cubs in the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, South Africa, the Netherlands, Sweden, Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Brazil, and to other cubs in England.
