Cubs look into The Deep
The Pack recently enjoyed an evening learning about the Marine Attraction “The Deep”. John Lawson, Learning Manager of the new attraction that opened in Hull in March 2002, gave a fascinating illustrated talk as part of a Pack Meeting.
Highlights for the cubs were the sample models of fossils and coral that Mr. Lawson brought to accompany his talk. They were excited by the descriptions of the ice walls in the Polar Zone and of the sharks that will swim in The Deep’s main aquarium. The Deep is a special place for children. Our cubs had a sneak preview of the exciting things it has.
The presentation looked at the environmental aspects of the project - for example, no coral was taken from the wild for the main aquarium - as well as the educational and entertainment elements of The Deep. With artist impressions of the major exhibits, the cubs were given a real flavour for the spectacular sights in the new landmark building.
The Deep is housed in a new landmark building - Hull’s answer to the Sydney Opera House - at the mouth of the River Hull as it enters the River Humber. Special party rates are available and the cubs of 3rd Cottingham are already looking forward to visiting the real thing.
