B'JAZZ VESPERS: Our church sponsors this jazz vespers service on the third Sunday evening of every month from September through May, excluding December (6 -- 8 PM). The jazz comes from high quality professional jazz groups and they perform for 100 minutes. In between the two jazz sets, there is a twenty minute non-sectarian worship vespers. A highly diverse audience comes to hear the jazz and enjoy the evening. A free-will offering is taken and casual dress is encouraged.

CRITCHFIELD CONCERTS: Almost every year, First Baptist sponsors a free concert featuring a regional or national talent, from music, to drama, to dance, in our sanctuary. The sanctuary is filled for these wonderful concerts.

GLOBAL GIFTS AND CRAFTS / UNICEF CARD SHOP: Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from early November until just before Christmas, these non-profit shops offer high quality merchandise at good prices. All the profit helps people in third world countries. The church subsidizes these two stores and makes no local profit from them. Enter through Bates Street door (10 AM -- 3 PM).

TEAM CENTER: Anyone coming to the greater Birmingham area in need of emergency assistance will be referred by the churches and synagogues of our community to the Team Center, which is located in First Baptist Church. Trained volunteers from area congregations provide all kinds of assistance to persons in need.

MISSION GROUPS: Our church has many active mission groups which house the homeless in our facility one week a year, help build Habitat for Humanity houses in NW Detroit, support our partnership with an historically African American church in the city, assist another African American church with its neighborhood housing ministry, and volunteer at a thrift shop in Hamtramck. One team helps our church become more inclusive, sensitive to issues of diversity in our wider society.

GATEWAY MONTESSORI SCHOOL: First Baptist houses this wonderful, independent school which offers classes and care for infants through third graders. Six classrooms are fully staffed and there are student waiting lists. We're proud of this partnership with Gateway. For information, call 248-645-6393.

CARE AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH: Our church sponsors a variety of year-long discipleship groups, short-term Lenten groups, short-term prayer and meditation offerings. We have two prayer-chains which we activate around individual emergencies and needs. Our church is strong in visitation upon our confined members, and responding to members in special need and transition.
