Atlanta Braves Trip - Day 4

Day Four - "Don't Rain On My Parade"

August 10, 1997

We slept in late for a second straight day (isn't that why it's called a vacation?) before heading to Roswell to do some shopping.

While listening to the "Skip Caray Show" in the car we heard the Braves were calling a press conference. The first thing that came to mind was a trade for a much-needed reliever but the news was just as welcome: Greg Maddux re-signed for another five years. I fully expected him to stay with Atlanta but I didn't expect serious negotiations to start until the season was over.

When we reached Roswell we were in the middle of a downpour. It got me thinking about how good the weather had been this week. I had heard before I came that Atlanta was sizzling. It had been cool the whole time we'd been here and it rained a couple times. There have even been times it was downright chilly! No humidity at all unlike the last time I was here in 1992. The first time I noticed the humidity was before we went shopping which was just after the rain let up.

We picked up some odds and ends at various stores and returned to the hotel in time to see the end of the game (in which Mike Bielecki blew it again--it's amazing how a player can dominate one year and struggle equally as much the next) on TV.

At the movies: "The Saint" - 2 stars

That was all she wrote for Sunday. But I had a feeling that as boring as Sunday was, Monday would be equally as interesting . . .
