(4/21/97) Model "A" Ford engines were Mr. Pietenpol's choice of power for his first sucessful two-place airplane. Here's a chart
showing the torque and horsepower curves of the old mill -- and why our
favorite four-banger is still such a good choice today. (More about this in the video.)

(3/23/98) The 1932 Flying and Glider Manual was where it all started for thousands of amateur aircraft builders. Here's the cover of the original -- not to be confused with EAA's version available today.

(4/9/97) Lowell Frank flew a Funk engine in his Piet for many years. Boy, did that ship climb fast! The last time he gave me a ride, he was flying another very hot Piet.
Here's a draft of an article describing how he's been playing with the old Ford engine to make it produce over 70 hp.! (More in BPAN issue #56.)

(6/4/98) In the genuine Pietenpol plans and building articles, B. H. Pietenpol specifies metal thickness as a 'Gage', which seems to baffle many builders in the late 1900's. So your BPA provides a U. S. standard gage chart.

(1/20/99) A five cylinder radial. Probably too light for a Piet, but you've just gotta see HCI's little round engine with VW jugs. It's especially for homebuilders, and designer Jack Hereford has a nice article about radial theory and design posted here too. (This site is no longer maintaind by gem; direct your questions to HCI.)

A Piet for the driveway M. H. Proffitt (408 Upper Dixie, Oakland KY 42159-6817) has been at it again -- this time he built a ''to the plans'' Air Camper for his grandchildren. Here's one of the kids ready for a flight down the driveway!
