Hawley Bowlus was the shop foreman for Ryan Aircraft Company when the "Spirit of St. Louis" was made for Charles Lindberg. It was Hawley Bowlus, not Claude Ryan, who made the airplane to Lindberg's specification. There are around twenty of these trailers remaining out of about 140 originally built.
