      Las Cabezas de San Juan

      Bothcasual and serious nature lovers will enjoy a few hours at the most complete nature reserve in Puerto Rico., Las Cabezas de San Juan in Fajardo. In that short period of time you can experience every major tropical habitat( except a rain forest) unique to the island.

      Las Cabezas, which means"Headlands", refer to 3 promontories that extend into the Atlantic Ocean. A 19th century lighthouse(El Faro), beautifully restored by the Conservation Trust, caps one of these.

      Visitors explore the Nature Center in the Lighthouse and climb to its observation deck for an extraordinary view of El Yunque and the neighboring islands. They also follow trails and boardwalks through the Reserve's different ecological settings, or just relax surrounded by the majesty and diversity of the tropical setting. Trained guides, ample signs, demonstrations and special programs and exhibits help visitors understand and appreciate the fragile ecology of the Reserve

      The Reserve is north of Fajardo on road 987 near las Croabas. It is open to the public Friday through Sunday but reservations are required. Tours in Spanish are at 9:00a.m.,10:00 a.m.,10:30 a.m., and 2:00p.m. English language tour at 2:00p.m.. Admission is $5 adults, $2 children.
