First there was the Shaolin Monastery on Songshan Mountain in Dengfeng County,
Henan Province...
...then after many burnings and rebuildings of the Monastery,
in the early 1900's, Yan Ji Wen taught a young teen by the name of Gu Ru Zhang all
that he knew of the Bei Shaolin system. After learning all that he could from
Yan Ji Wen, Shizong Gu Ru Zhang travelled throughout China demonstrating his feats
of strength in Iron Palm (Tie Sha Zhang) and Small Golden Bell Cover Qi Gong
(Xiao Jin Zhong Zhao Qi Gong).
The particular system called Bei Shaolin
is the compilation of forms (quan) and techniques organised and handed down through
generations at the Shaolin Monastery by way of Shizong Gu Ru Zhang.
There are many styles and systems that come to us from the north. We concern ourselves
with the particular and distinct system by the exact nominatum of Bei Shaolin as handed
down directly from Yan Ji Wen to Shizong Gu Ru Zhang and then to the rest of us
in its pristine and unchanged form from centuries of dedicated training.
The Bei Shaolin system is a beauty to behold.
