Like a lot of regular urban legends, this one is ofen told with some unpleasant racial undertones, but is so commonly repeated I feel needs mention. A naive young first-time (usually teenage) mother, Miss Jones, brings home her new-born baby girl to show off to her friends. When asked what she named her, the mom says the hospital named the girl for her, telling them the name is (phonetically) "FEE-ma-LEE." To their puzzled stares, she explains that when the baby was brought to her room from the nursery for the first time, she already had her name written on the card on the crib: "Female Jones."
The story is told of the medical student that could always get blood from any patient, no matter how hard "the stick." When all else fails, this guy was called...he would go into the room and a few minutes later emerge with the needed tubes of blood in hand. When finally asked how he did it, he answered that he just went into the left ventricle and always got his blood!
-and a tip of the old stethescope to Dr. Neil DeNunzio for this fine example.
