Gruyere is the home of a famous cheese by the same name. This town dates from 923 A.D.! It sits on top of a rock in the middle of a valley. The buildings are all built on the edge of the rock. In this picture you see the backs of these buildings and the town square that is formed between the buildings. We had lunch here after some sightseeing. What we recall is the pervasive smell of Gruyere cheese.
